The Example of Saint Ambrose of Milan and the Contemporary Theories of Obligatory Cessation of Communion with those in Communion with Hierarchs Preaching Heresy "Bare-Headed"

By Protopresbyter Peter Heers

Today, December 7th, we celebrate the memory of our Father Among the Saints Ambrose of Milan. The Life of the Saint, written by his close disciple Paulinus, relays important information on the state of the Church at the time and the way in which the Saint was elected bishop which is quite relevant to our contemporary situation and very instructive for us vis-a-vis how the Fathers of the Church dealt with...

Saint Paisios the Athonite on the Pan-Orthodox Council and Discernment

The Elder Warned that Holy Tradition would be Rejected and Replaced by Innovation

"At that time the Pre-Conciliar Conferences began in order to prepare a new Pan-Orthodox Synod, and among the issues discussed there were many proposals contrary to Orthodox tradition. When the Elder learned of them he was very worried and spoke with a pain of soul: "Do you understand what will happen?," he would ask. The Encyclical Letter of Saint Mark of Ephesus

St. Mark the Eugenicus: "I will never do this whatever may happen." [On the table: "Terms of Union of Latins and Orthodox. In Florence in 1439."]

Does the Russian Orthodox Church Accept the “Mysteries” of the Heretics?

> “In the Orthodox Church alone is grace given through the sacraments (most other churches don’t even claim to have sacraments in any serious sense)...they (heretics) cannot be objectively Christian as belonging to the Body of Christ and receiving the grace of the sacraments.”

– Fr. Seraphim Rose

> “...To "lead a perfectly righteous life," as the questioner expressed it, means to live according to the commandments of the Beatitudes—which is beyond the power of one, outside the Orthodox Church, without the help of grace which is concealed within it.”

– Metropolitan Philaret of NY

From a Catholic

This was sent to me by a friend.

Besides the obvious mistaken perception about the church, which one expects from Latin quarters, the commentary below is of interest to us because of the similar methodology he sees at work in the pan-Orthodox synod with that at work during Vatican II.

The asterisks are mine, the commentary yours...
